SET A PATH TO EFFICIENTLY ELECTRIFY YOUR HOME
Electrifying our homes and improving their energy efficiency will lower energy bills, reduce emissions, and improve our health and comfort - all at the same time.
We know each home is different. Whether you rent, own your own house or live in an apartment, there are actions you can take to efficiently electrify.
What do we mean by electrify and energy efficiency?
Electrifying means switching our appliances and vehicles to run on renewable electricity instead of gas or petrol.
Energy efficiency is about how much energy it takes to run our homes and make them comfortable. Efficient homes do more with less.
Why efficiently electrify?
Cheaper energy bills
Lower greenhouse gas emissions
Better health and home comfort
CHEAPER ENERGY BILLS
Australian rooftop solar is the cheapest home energy in the world.
With rooftop solar, battery, electric appliances and an EV, the average electrified home could save $3,000 per year in running costs. (1)
Retrofitting for energy efficiency could amplify this saving by $736 per year for Perth households. (2)
MORE COMFORTABLE HOMES
Most Australian homes have very poor energy efficiency.
This means that they’re very hot in summer and cold in winter without extra heating or cooling. Renters are more likely to live in inefficient homes and end up spending more of their income on energy bills.
Improving building energy efficiency makes our homes more comfortable all year round and helps us adapt to a warming climate.
BETTER HEALTH AND AIR QUALITY
Electrifying our vehicles and gas appliances improves air quality and respiratory health
This is through the avoidance of dangerous pollutants that comes from burning gas and petrol.
ENERGY SECURITY AND INDEPENDENCE
Having your own rooftop solar and battery means you are generating your own power and relying less on the grid.
This can mean greater energy security during blackouts.
LOCAL JOBS
Electrifying Curtin will create thousands of jobs in our communities and boost local economies.
All these electrical appliances, vehicles, and energy efficiency retrofits will need proper installation and maintenance by professionals.
GETTING TO NET ZERO MEANS EFFICIENTLY ELECTRIFYING EVERYTHING
An electrified home and vehicle running on renewable energy has zero energy emissions.
Electricity generation is the biggest source of greenhouse gas emissions in Curtin, and most of this electricity is used to run our buildings.
Electrifying our buildings and transport to run on renewable energy would cut 90% of Curtin’s emissions. To electrify at scale, we need to increase our energy efficiency and do more with less.
CURTIN’S CURRENT EMISSIONS
Who are we?
Electrify Curtin is a group of optimistic, local volunteers with a mission to electrify the electorate. We’re here to help you plan your transition, and set you on a path toward a brighter, cleaner future.
One of the advantages of being independent is being able to support avenues like the Curtin Pathway to Net Zero project, so passionate and energetic community members can set a positive vision for the future and make the electrification and energy efficiency journey easier for others.
I’m grateful for what I have learned from this engaged group and – will continue to advocate for better national policy to support this exciting transition.
